Loudspeaker is one of the few words that retain same etymological structure in several European languages:
altoparlante
altifalante
loudspeaker
haut-parleur
lautsprecher
luidspreker
høyttaler
μεγάφωνο
hoparlör
altavoz
If the origin of the world has been the word (In principio erat verbum) it is easy to imagine a loudspeaker as a thing that speaks and to consider an orchestra of loudspeakers as a choir or a crowd of speaking voices, each from his/her own place.
The possibilities are multiple combining physical reality (the speakers and their fixed position in space) with sonorous reality constituted by the speaking voices and the said things (the instruments and the musical score):
1 – each speaker has its own voce
2 – each speaker says the same thing or follows the logic of a singular speech
3 – the speaker's choir has its own voice, unique and scattered in space
4 – the voices move in space (without moving the speakers)
5 - the said things move in space (without moving the speakers)
6 – each speaker diffuses one voice at a time
7 – each speaker diffuses one said thing at a time
8 - voices and/or said things mix them in the same loudspeaker (a loudspeaker spreads more voices / said things)
9 - same voices and/or said things are diffused from several loudspeakers
Numbers can be performed in various languages. For any version are possible shorter variants.
I have adopted for this first version of Numbers points 2 and 3: the chorus of loudspeakers has its own voice and every loudspeaker follows the logic of a singular speech (every said thing is broadcast only from a loudspeaker).
This first version was realized in Italian spoken by me for the 24 loudspeakers acusmonium of O'culto da Ajuda in Lisbon and lasts 10 minutes.
Numbers can be performed live by 24 (or other number) voices.
